The 14 New Moon Rituals to Make Your Reality Come True

New moon rituals can be incredibly helpful in making your desires a reality because they allow you to tap into the energy of the new moon, which is associated with new beginnings and manifestation.

The new moon will grow in size over the next fourteen days until it’s completely full.  Once it is, then the moon will begin to wane again until it becomes dark again. At this point, another new moon will be born.

The new moon is our guide in helping us to go inward and inwardly expand.  You are reminded to check back in with yourself, your intuition, and your intention.

The moon is an incredibly powerful tool that we’re given by the Universe to achieve any type of self-improvement, significant changes, our goals and dreams.  Make reality flow with ease rather than with stress and anxiety.

A new moon occurs when the Sun and the Moon are in the same sign.

We can harness the energy of the new moon cycle to our benefit in different ways.

The new moon rituals in this blog can help you consciously create with the new moon.

You can implement as many new moon rituals as you want, remember, that it also takes consistency and commitment to track the changes in your life and happiness.

The sooner you start the sooner you will see the magnificent effects it can have on your life.

With each new moon, you can come back to this article to change up the ritual/s that will help you manifest new beginnings and reflect on your current life path.

Call in your desires and manifest your visions with every new moon!

New Moon Rituals

The more energy you put into it each month the more you will receive back. Setting aside time each month on the new moon to get clear on what you want to manifest is the main agenda.

This can be done a few days leading up to the new moon.

Meditation and walking in nature will definitely help with clarity and you may be surprised by what reveals itself.

Make sure you focus on what you want with positive statements and affirming language, such as “ I am” and not “I need” or “I want”.  Sometimes the way we say things the proper way can be challenging, and when it’s said wrongly we are actually manifesting what we don’t want.

Always allow yourself to think big and bold and always for your highest good.

When making your intentions, wishes, etc, keep them clear and concise and to a maximum of ten.  Don’t overcomplicate them but you can be centred around the same subject or you can focus on different areas.

Allocate a few moments to focus on every item as you add it to the list and envision it as everything is comprised of energy and has a higher probability of materializing.

The most potent time to perform rituals on a new moon is during the exact moment of the new moon.  The exact moment of the new moon is the moment when the moon is at the same degree as the sun in the sky. At this time, the moon is not visible in the sky, which makes it a powerful time for inner work and manifestation.

However, it’s not always possible to perform a ritual at the exact moment of the new moon.  Because of this, many people choose to perform their rituals within the 24 hours before or after the new moon.  This is known as the “dark moon” phase and is still considered to be a powerful time for new beginnings, manifestation and introspection.

It’s also worth noting that since the new moon occurs at different times depending on time zones, it’s important to consult a lunar calendar to determine the exact time of the new moon for your location.

Additionally, It’s important to take into account that the energy of the new moon can vary depending on the astrological sign it’s in and the aspects it makes with other planets.  This could add or subtract potency to the ritual.   Check the astrological chart of the new moon in my 2023 New moon’s Energy, this will give you a better understanding of how the new moon’s energy will be impacting you.

1.  Create a Sacred Space

Clear a space in your home where you can perform your ritual.  Create a little, cleared sacred area, so you can sit and be comfortable on a cushion, rug or chair (just for you).

A corner of a room, a desk or an altar can be an alternative solution.

A place reserved for your spiritual practices, an area to retreat to so you can be in solitude and reflect any time you feel the need but especially on the New moon and Full Moon.

Create a sacred space for one of your new moon rituals

In this space, you can light candles, burn incense, or place crystals in this area to create a peaceful and spiritual atmosphere.

Try to balance the objects according to air, fire, earth and wood.

These could also include things you love and/or things you may want to get rid of their negative energy.  Just remember it should be a clean and simple area, so not too many items.

Once you have created your sacred space, you must clear the energy every time you go there.  Clearing your sacred space sets the tone for your practice and helps you align with the present moment.

You can clear your space by using incense, sage, palo santo, a candle or an infuser and say a simple prayer to ground your energy and intentions.

“Dear Universe, please support me in clearing this space so that my truest intentions can flow clearly from my heart onto paper.”

Ask the Universe as one of your new moon rituals

On the new moon, light a candle or incense as this symbolises seeking out light and hope.

Focus on what you are striving for and write down your intentions.

Please Note: This doesn’t have to mean goals or physical things, maybe you need the Universe to help you with something.

This new moon ritual can be done for personal energetic clearing or before meditation and also to clear the energy in your home.  It would be beneficial if your home is clean and tidy.

2.  Take a New Moon Refresher Bath

Rituals that involve water are always beneficial for working with moon energy as it is closely associated with the element of water.

Set a healing ambience for your bath so you can relax and reset in the tub.

You can add some sea salt, Epsom salts or bath oil to the water, listen to your favourite music (low volume) or just be in silence, have some candles lit, and fill your diffuser with essential oils.

Do whatever makes you feel comfortable and in the moment.

As you cleanse, release, and refresh your mind, body and spirit, you set the stage for a new beginning.

There is nothing better than this new moon ritual if you are able to perform it in an outdoor spa.  This is my favourite place to meditate, where I can see the sky and stars.  Allow my feelings and thoughts to surface and then communicate with the Universe.

I also like the peacefulness that surrounds me when I’m in the dark of night.

3.  Writing Intentions

Take some time to reflect on what you want to manifest in the upcoming lunar cycle.

Create a Intentions list for one of your new moon rituals

It is important to be specific about your intentions and desires.  Describe your intentions and desires in detail. Be certain that you believe them to be real and achievable.  If you don’t believe it, it won’t happen.

The new moon represents new beginnings and a magical time for manifesting and setting your intentions and goals.

Remember that intentions are different from goals.

A person’s intention is what the person wants to feel and is more personal and subjective, while goals are more specific, tangible and outcome orientated.

The new moon energy aids us in setting intentions and new goals for the weeks or even months ahead.

How to set intentions:

State your intentions

When you decide what you want, verbalise your intentions or write them down.

Doing so may not only feel good but can also help to hold you accountable.

It’s important to understand your values and how you can move toward them through small, repeatable actions. Then state your intentions to accomplish these tasks.  You will feel more motivated to follow through.

Making a statement is essential and intentions are most powerful when they are shared or declared outside your own head.

Be clear

To get the best results, it’s important to be clear about what you want to achieve and think about the results that you can expect.

Being conscious about where you place your attention is key to successfully achieving one’s objectives.

It is easier to focus and apply yourself when you have a clear idea of what you want.

Make positive intentions

Anything can be an intention, but make sure your intention comes from a place of positivity.

Some examples of positive intentions include:

“Today, I will make conscious choices.”

“I will be present.”

“Eating healthy things will be a priority.”

Research shows negative emotions can overpower their positive counterparts.

Negative intentions are those that begin with the words “I won’t.”

Make sure your choices reflect your intentions by pausing throughout the day to check in with yourself.

Keep your intentions simple

Your intentions should be realistic, achievable, and actionable.

Set an intention for something that it’s part of your daily routine.

For example – You have to see a co-worker or have a meeting which makes you feel anxious or nervous.  You can set the intention of “I intend to go to work or meeting feeling more relaxed and connected to others.”

Once you get a handle on setting daily intentions you can expand to weekly or monthly intentions.

Intentions should be simple, specific and envision it in your future and feel as if you have already achieved it.

Shift limiting beliefs

Limiting beliefs are convictions you hold to be absolutely true but have negative impacts on your life by holding you back in some way.

Any doubt you have will block your ability to achieve anything.

Life is full of challenges and obstacles, as is anything worth achieving.

This new moon ritual of writing intentions/goals can be magical!

4.  Make a Wish List

This new moon ritual is handwriting down your wishes and desires (remember no more than 10) on your Wish List.

The best time to do your Wish List is within 6 hours before or after the exact time of the New moon.  Don’t fear if this is impossible, just try to complete it as soon as possible after the exact time.

Your wishes are amplified if they are aligned with the energy of the Sign of the New moon so check out the 2023 New moon’s Energy.  I have outlined all the related topics according to the astrology sign the new moon is in for each month for the whole year of 2023.

Create a wish list for one of your new moon rituals

Be specific about what you want.

Don’t ask, “I want money” because it may come through death or through a more complex process.

To ask correctly, say, “I want to make money in a happy way,” “I want to earn money happily,” or “It would be nice to have enough money to buy all the things I need.”

After you have written them, reread them, visualize them, and feel as though you already have them, then write “I am worthy of this” for each wish.

Keep your high vibration going until the new moon.

Let go of your desired outcome!

Believe and trust the Universe!

Remember, be careful of what you wish for as it is important to know that the Universe operates in ways that we do not always understand. Sometimes, a wish granted may come in a form other than what we had envisioned or expected.

Be open to receiving what is.  When you are ready, it will come to you.  It might not seem like the best time, but in reality, it’s usually perfect.

Also, nothing happens without any effort or action on your part.

To be truly successful, it’s essential to maintain a positive attitude, believe in yourself and trust in your abilities.

The Universe shows us many opportunities to move forward, fulfilling our wishes and desires.  You’ll have a choice to make along the way.  Do what feels right to you, not what someone else wants you to do.  If it feels really good then it’s the right thing for you.

If you have any blockages or challenges on the way, don’t give up!

That means you may need a different way or approach.  There are plenty of resources out there to help you make your dream happen.

You should keep your list safe till the following full moon because that’s when it’s best to reflect on them.

5.  Candle Magic

Lighting a candle on the darkest night of the month signifies our desire to bring just a little more light into our lives.

candle magic

Candles are an easy way to set the mood for any ritual.  You can use a certain coloured candle with a specific meaning, a scented candle or just a small tea light.

For more ambience, you can add a few drops of essential oils to your candle such as lavender which is good for clarity.

As for the size of it, it should be a candle that you can light and watch the flame until the candle burns completely.  If for whatever reason, you can’t do this, when finishing your ritual you must snuff the candle and not blow it out.  Because you don’t want to blow your chances away.

Natural-made candles from beeswax or soy are best, but if it’s homemade even better.

Relax and be in the moment and as you light the candle, place it stationary on a table, staring into the flame for a few minutes, ask the Universe to light up your life and show you what to focus on for your month ahead.

Another way is to hold the lit candle and imagine the intentions you wish to manifest during this moon cycle.  Feel grateful and love within you, and ask the Universe for what you want.

Write down some of your primary life goals and focus on their attainment while the new moon is in the sky.

Visualise and ask for the moon’s support in the implementation of your plans.

Choose a colour candle that best suits your intentions:

White – Resolve conflicts and establish peace, treat physical and mental ailments, and atone for guilt.

Brown – Find lost items, for the pets’ health and home blessings.

Orange – Opening new opportunities, enhancing ambitions and creativity, and solving legal issues.

Purple – Development of intuition, the acquisition of power and wisdom.

Yellow – Improving memory, developing intelligence, learning something new, and optimism.

Pink – Find and preserve love, friendship, strengthen your femininity, and give and receive care.

Green – Good health, growth and development of anything, scaling business projects, increasing income, achieving financial independence, attracting good luck.

Blue – Concentration, to forgive someone, or to receive forgiveness, to know the truth, to feel peace.

Red – for strength and passion, to achieve career advancements, for active fearless actions.

Gold – Wealth and prosperity, power and success. Gold symbolises the energy of the sun.

Silver – Establish harmony with yourself, understand and accept yourself.  Silver symbolises the energy of the moon.

Things to remember while doing a candle ritual:

You should stay near the candle all the time while it burns.  If the wick goes out, light it again.  If you want to use the candle again, make sure you clean it immediately after every ritual.

Your power of thought reaches its maximum on a new moon so watch your thoughts and feelings when you use the new moon candle magic.

Think positive and put kind energy into your new moon ritual.  Everything you think will come true.

6.  Invocation or Prayer

There is a difference between Invocation and Prayer, which I will explain.

Invocation is the act of form of calling for the assistance or presence of some superior being, especially prayer offered to a divine being.  The reading of an inspirational message, or a period of quiet guided contemplation.

The word “invoke” means to call upon, especially for help.

Invoking the Divine can be done in many ways, by simply asking for what you want and working from there, or you can use it as an opportunity to pray or write down your desires in prayer form.

You don’t need to follow any formal ritual or specific procedure when doing so; just make yourself comfortable and ask away!

An invocation begins the epic poem and serves as a prologue to the events to come.   The poet asks for the inspiration, skill, knowledge, or the right emotion to complete a poem worthy of his subject.

Example of a good Invocation:

“We stand before You, Holy Spirit (God), as we gather together in Your name.  With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.  Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.  Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.  All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever.  Amen.”

Prayer is a practice of communicating with one’s God.  Having a conversation with God, not only just talking but listening as well.

Prayer begins by addressing the person to whom you are speaking by name and saying what’s on your heart and then being quiet before God.

Example of a good Prayer:

“Dear God (Lord), I pray that you will cleanse me, strengthen me, guide me, so that in all ways my life may be lived as you would have it lived, without cowardice and for you alone.  Show me how to live in true humility, true contrition, and true love.”

In Invocation, you enjoy yourself with God and in prayer, you focus on yourself where God is pervaded.

Please Note: An affirmation is also a prayer, except that we can do affirmations simply to create an energy pattern in space and time.   Affirmations do not require that we request anything of anyone, whether Divine or human. Affirmations are statements that are affirmed – a declaration that something is true while prayer is a practice of communicating with one’s God.

7.  Say Affirmations

This new moon ritual is all about saying Affirmations which are positive statements about ourselves.

Affirmations are positive statements that a person repeats to themselves to change their mindset or behaviour. They are often used to boost self-esteem, reduce stress, or achieve a specific goal. They are usually in the present tense and positive.

Affirmations are a great way to get clear on what we want and have the ability to completely change our perspectives of ourselves and our circumstances.  When they are repeated frequently, it influences our subconscious mind.

When your affirmations are related to the same astrology sign the new moon is positioned in at the time, the more potent it will be.

For more information about the new moon and zodiac sign for 2023

Affirmations are about what you want to be and embody – so what kind of energy do you want to bring with you into this new cycle?

Examples of Affirmations:

“I invite abundance and prosperity into my life.”

“I bring peace and love into this new cycle of light ”

“I am confident and energetic.”

Affirmations can help you get rid of negative thoughts and beliefs, which in turn helps you create positive change in your life.

Make an affirmation list, read it aloud with feeling and conviction, and repeat it regularly.  If you honestly believe what you say, you will usually act on it.

Affirmations are helpful anytime not only on a new moon!

Please Note: An Affirmation differs from an Intention.  Affirmations are the positive statement that you tell yourself to change your mindset or behaviour while intentions are the goals or objectives you set for yourself to guide your actions and decisions.

8.  New Moon Breathwork

Have you ever heard of the new moon Breathwork?

You might have if you’ve looked into meditation or yoga, but it’s a great way to centre yourself and clear your mind before going into the day.  Therefore, Breathwork can be done when you feel it necessary.

Breathing is a key aspect of manifesting and it will help you release any tension in your body so that you can write down your new moon intentions from a heart-centred space.

There are many versions of Breathwork but this is a simple way:

  • Sit comfortably in a chair or on the floor with your spine straight.
  • Place one hand on your heart and the other on your belly.
  • Start breathing slowly in through the nose and out through the mouth.
  • Focus on your inhale being long and smooth, slowly filling the belly, visualising energy filling up the whole body and count to 4.
  • Hold your breath for a couple of seconds, and count to 7.
  • Twice as long and smooth as you exhale through the mouth, visualise energy leaving the top of the head and count to 8.
  • Breathe like this until you become grounded and have that relaxed, peaceful feeling.
  • Finish the practice by sending gratitude to your body for being healthy and working for the highest good for you.

Keep trying because you soon get the hang of it and realise that we have a lot of control over our bodies, it just takes practice.

Breathwork can support many of the challenges everyone experiences.  It reduces stress and creates feelings of openness, love, peace, gratitude, clarity, communication, and connection.

This new moon ritual of Breathwork also helps to release trauma or mental, physical, and emotional blocks, as well as anxiety, depression, fear, grief, and anger.

Please Note:  There is a difference between Breathwork and Meditation.  Meditation is about increasing your awareness of how you operate. It asks you to observe your breath without manipulating it, whereas Breathwork is a form of active meditation which uses breathing practices to try and alter your mood or mental state.

9.  New Moon Meditation

This new moon ritual of meditation is widely known and probably being performed already, but I have to mention it.

Meditation is the ultimate way to quiet your mind, go inward and connect with your true self. When you meditate you are able to clear out all of the noise in your head, focus on being present, and be more mindful.

When we want to meditate with the new moon, we want to get in the space of going within, relaxing and listening to our heart, body, feelings and thoughts.

Do this before your hand-writing your lists for the new moon then open your eyes, have your journal and pen close at hand and complete your list with what has just come up.

Spend 10-15 minutes meditating on each item one at a time and focus on how it feels in your body and how it will feel once you have manifested it.

As you go through your list, let go of your attachment to your intentions and settle into curiosity about how the Universe will fulfil your dreams.

The best way to end your meditation is to express your gratitude for what has been given to you and to say your release from clinging to your wishes.

Put your new moon intention list away until next month when you can go over it to see what has manifested.

When an item on your list becomes real thank the Universe!

Make note of any intentions that are getting closer and if there are any no closer to coming to fruition consider revising them.

During next month’s ritual, you can go through this inventory of your previous list so you will have more clarity moving forward.

There are so many great benefits to doing it consistently but here are a few:

  • Clearing away any negative thoughts or emotions that may be bogging you down (you can literally see them leaving).
  • Being able to focus better on whatever task at hand without distractions or interruptions.
  • Being more compassionate towards yourself when things don’t go according to plan (no matter how small) because then instead of beating yourself up about it or being hard on yourself for making mistakes or not being perfect enough yet etc…  Instead we will just accept that this happened today but tomorrow things might go differently so let’s get over it now so we can move forward instead of backward.
  • Eases pain, anxiety, depression, reduces stress, and improves sleep and brain health.

Meditation is very powerful, so if you have tried it but didn’t stick with it, I highly suggest you give it a second go and keep going until you are meditating regularly.

10.  Create New Moon Water

Using water that is energetically charged by the new moon is beneficial as it conducts energy well and helps send your intentions out into the Universe.

It’s easy to make moon water, place glass jugs or bottles of water outside under the new moon to absorb the moon’s energy.

Crystals can be added to the water or on top of the lid, which will enhance the moon water’s energy.  Just be certain that water-safe crystals are used otherwise they could be discoloured or destroyed.  Also, the crystals are newly charged already.

When performing a new moon ritual, it’s important to focus on one or two specific intentions rather than trying to accomplish multiple things at once. This allows you to put your full energy and attention towards achieving your desired outcome.

It’s also important to remember that the new moon cycle occurs every month, so if you have multiple intentions, you can always work on them during the next new moon.

You can also use different colours, symbols or crystals for each intention, this can also help you to connect with the energy of the intention on a deeper level.

When preparing to leave it outside, hold the water in your hands and set your intention.  During this process, as you are programming the water, you should meditate

Take the moon water the next morning and every morning after the new moon, consciously thinking of your intention with each sip while having the feeling as if you’ve already got it.

This may last 2 or 3 days after the new moon, so you have more than once to enjoy your moon water and embrace your intention.

Please Note: It’s also important to be realistic about what you can achieve in one lunar cycle. Some intentions may require more time, effort, and energy to manifest. Be patient and persistent with your intentions, and to trust that they will manifest in the right time and way.

11.  Journalling Your Thoughts

This new moon ritual is one of the best ways to solidify the intentions you set by writing them down.  Journaling is a great way to reflect and create without judgment from others, it’s all between your pen, you, and your paper.

Before starting to write in your journal, make sure you are in a place that is comfortable and relaxed (your sacred place).  Make sure you centre and ground yourself.  This will help you align with the intentions and goals that you put out into the Universe.

Journaling is a great way to reconnect with your heart centre and make sense of the thoughts swirling around in your head.

Also, to get clear on your intentions, goals, desires and anything that are important to you.

As you handwrite everything that comes to you about all aspects of your life even the fears and ways of overcoming them.

For example, I want a better relationship with my partner, so we can spend more time together doing fun things and looking after each other when needed; then write down what is getting in the way (time management issues? Lack of trust? Jealousy?).

This will help you align with your intentions and issues that you put out into the Universe.

It is very therapeutic and beneficial to journal regularly at this time of the month, maybe weekly or daily.

In the near future, I hope to release an exclusive Personal Journey Journal through Amazon.

12.  Crystal Cleanse and Charge

Crystals are used as support for a new moon ritual or other rituals.  As they add more power and energy to your practice, making it a much more powerful experience.

When using crystals they must be cleansed and charged.  Charged crystals have highly versatile energetic properties that are used to heal, manifest, connect the user to higher vibrations, and open up blocked chakras.

On a clear new moon, day or night is a perfect time to cleanse and charge your crystals.  Even if it’s cloudy as this doesn’t affect the moon’s energy but under no circumstances if it is raining.

Cleansing crystals properly is important, and there are several methods to do so.  Before doing any water cleansing, make sure you are using only water-safe crystals.  Some crystals are soft and could break or be destroyed when put in salt water or water.

Methods of cleansing crystals:

  • Place them on a piece of Selenite (log, bowl, plate, etc) for 24 hours.  Selenite has self-cleansing properties and removes negative or stagnant energy.
  • Fill your bowl with natural seawater or tap water and add a teaspoon of salt (make sure the salt is dissolved.)  There are crystal cleansing solutions that can be used. Place the crystal in the bowl for up to 7 hours.  Until they feel clear again, if needed repeat the process and be sure to rinse them afterwards under the tap.
  • Same as above but place the crystal under a running tap for a couple of minutes.
  • Place them in the morning or the evening sun for at least 4 hours. I would recommend not putting crystals in direct sunlight as crystals can be sensitive to this.

Charging crystals with the new moon:

This new moon ritual will charge crystals and will change the crystals’ vibrations.

  • If you can’t place the crystals outside, placing them on a windowsill or a wooden plate on a balcony will be okay.
  • Place your crystals outside on the earth or a natural surface, as they like to be earthed or grounded like our bodies.
  • Your crystals will lock in the energy of whatever astrological sign the new moon is in at the time, you can do this in 2023 New Moon’s Energy.
  • Plus any intentions you put into them yourself.  This is the time to set your intentions either write them down or say them aloud.  Remember, it’s best to focus on a need rather than a want when setting intentions.
  • Leave them overnight in the moonlight and collect them in the morning. If that’s not possible, leave them out as long as possible.
  • Before removing them make sure that you give thanks to the Universe or God.

Choose which crystal(s) will work best for you based on what kind of energy you want during this stage of life/growth/change.

For example: if you need more balance, choose specific stones like amethyst or citrine which have properties that help achieve balance within the body along with chakra alignment.

13.  Cleansing/Smudging

It is known that everything is made of energy, and energies affect every living place, whether it be at home, at work, or wherever.

The energy can shift from a pleasant to a negative feeling.  Negative environments can make people irritable or depressed.

This new moon ritual is a cleansing ritual such as smudging that can help to eliminate the effects of negativity in any environment.

Smudging is the burning of White Sage or Palo Santo similar to incense.  White Sage, naturally soothes both mind and body and Palo Santo is a potent medicinal wood that gives you a sense of calmness and focus.

Spiritual guidance can also be gained from it since it connects people with the Creator.  Also, the smoke from burning sacred herbs is said to cleanse the body and soul.

Smudging transforms negative energy in your body and physical space into positive and higher vibrational energy.

This is a great relaxing way to open yourself up to the new moon and receive intuitive messages.

14.  Make Your Own Ritual

When creating your own ritual, the main objective is to find something that feels both special and comfortable for you.

A basic ritual should include a few simple steps and something that you can focus on as a way to ground yourself in the present moment.

  • A comfy and quiet spot to sit.
  • 30 to 90 minutes of uninterrupted time for yourself.
  • Deep and long breaths, slowing your breathing down.
  • Notebook and pen.
  • Something simple and nourishing such as a drink or plant food to eat afterwards.

The aim is to create a magical space, so make it your own, let your instincts take over and just do what feels natural.

You don’t want to read instructions on a phone or computer as this takes you out of the moment.

For a more in-depth of Making your own rituals, keep eye on the site as it will be coming out soon.
