Do you want to simplify your life and start living simply?  If so, then this post is for you!

There is no need to make everything complicated when it can easily be simplified.

It doesn’t have to be hard, it means cutting out the things that don’t matter and focusing on the things that do.

This post will provide 22 ways that are simple and easy enough for anyone to improve everyday life.

What does it mean to simplify your life?

It means cutting down anything that is unnecessary or brings you stress. Doing the necessary things and doing them well instead of being lazy or putting it off till later.

Planning ahead so there are no unpleasant surprises. Getting rid of physical clutter around the house so it’s neat and there is no awkwardness when having guests over, etc…

Having less to clean and manage so you have time to do things you love or have a passion for.

We only have a certain amount of time in the day and it’s up to you how you allocate that time.  For most of us, that generally includes,  keeping house, organising kids, working and ‘me’ or ‘family’ time.

Why you should simplify your life

There are many reasons why and it will be different for all of us but some of the common reasons are: removing things that are not adding value or importance in our daily life; being happier and content; having more time and energy; focusing on what really matters most for us and getting things done.

As you will be aware of the days and weeks, months are rapidly passing by, so now is the time to start and don’t forget to take action, follow through and complete your plan.

Basically, there are only four steps to determining what to eliminate from your life:

  • Identify what’s most important to you.
  • Evaluate your time and commitments.
  • Do what you love.
  • Eliminate everything else.

22 Ways to Simplify your life

Choose any of the following options and it will assist you in one way or another to get started.

Morning Routine  – Eating a nice and healthy breakfast because this one simple task will simplify things like how we feel throughout the day! By starting with a short workout to get the blood flowing and the day started on the right track!

Routines in General  – By sticking to a daily routine (make it a non negotiable habit) because this will change how you feel, think, and act for the entire day!

2. Simplify with Minimalism

Minimising the amount of things (material items) we have.

The less we own, the easier it is to maintain and simplify daily tasks such as laundry and cleaning!

4. Commit To Meditating Every Day

I think meditation has become popular plus so many benefits associated with it.

It’s something anyone can commit to doing every day since all you need is yourself; even if it’s only ten minutes each day for starters and I promise you will realise how good it is that you will be committing to more time for doing it.

The point of doing meditation is to simplify your mind and body.

5. Stop Watching TV

Let’s be real, we all watch too much television.  I like my You-Tube but I like having a day without it.  Before you say that I’m crazy for suggesting you stop watching it entirely (I know, the horror!), try limiting yourself by only allowing yourself to watch one hour a day or less if possible.

This will make such a difference in how productive you feel as well as help simplify your life overall!

6. Never Stop Learning & Read More

While we’re talking about learning new things to simplify our lives; never stop doing it .

Whether it’s searching for new recipes to try or reading books that teach us something, these simple daily tasks can make a world of difference when simplifying matters.

never stop learning

I know how busy most of us are, but reading is one thing that shouldn’t be forgotten about.

read

One great reason to simplify things in life would be because it makes room for reading and other important activities.

If this isn’t your cup of tea and books aren’t either, try simplifying by listening to more podcasts or audio recordings.

You could even download an app like Audible which has a pretty awesome selection if you want something new to read!

7. Spend Time With Loved Ones

Not everyone is able to travel as much as they’d like during their free time; so why not make the most of the time you do have by doing something fun with those closest to you?

They keep you hydrated and fruit takes the least amount of time to digest.

The benefits will speak for themselves here.

Learn how to cook at least one new meal a month.

Simplify things by learning how to make meals on our own instead of relying solely on microwavable dinners or takeout options all the time.

Learning something new is always fun anyway, right? Right!

10. Get An Exercise Routine Going

I know exercise can seem like an intimidating thing when you don’t know where to start and maybe not a fan of going to the gym or lifting weights at home, try by taking walks outside.

You can even take this time during your lunch break which will make getting back into work much easier than before!

Make that commitment to yourself.   Start with 15 minutes, then add 5 minutes every so often.

Out in nature is great on you, your body and mind.

11. Set Goals

This is one I struggle with myself because I’m always trying different things and playing around in my free time; so why simplify things here?

set goals

It’s simple really: set some goals for yourself that won’t be too difficult, yet rewarding once completed.

Whether its completing an entire tutorial series on YouTube or finally writing that blog post you’ve been thinking about for weeks now; simplify matters and get something done!

12. Spend Time In Nature

Simplify your life and spend more time in nature. If you’re like me and enjoy working from home, this will be a bit of a challenge.

You might look outside at the beautiful world around you and wish that it were easier to just go out there; simplify things by taking walks on trails or even sitting outside during lunch break (if possible).

Spending some time away from work is important for everyone’s mental health.

13. Don’t Over Complicate Things

Do not simplify things by trying to do too much or expecting too much from yourself or other people.

Don’t over complicate conversations, arguments, things said to you, etc. If you’re not sure of what that person has said, clarify it there and then when you’re in the situation. Make sure you don’t misunderstand and take things the wrong way.

Paying off any credit card bills or loans that you have.

Do what works best for you!

Start a Savings Plan.

Set up an automatic payment from your wages start with $20 each pay.

Make a list so there’s no need to worry about forgetting anything! It might be tough at first, but once this becomes habit, it’ll simplify matters throughout each day.

18. Just say “No”

Simplify your life by saying “no” when you need to (even though its easier said than done)!

Just Say 'no'

Set boundaries, it is okay if other people don’t like it;

Simplicity follows after we refuse to take on more work or responsibilities that don’t actually benefit us in any way, shape, or form; so simplify things and stick with what really makes a difference because anything else won’t make much of an impact at all!

19. Do One Thing At A Time

Doing only one thing at a time and concentrating on the job at hand, is being in the NOW.

Instead of multitasking which increases stress levels tremendously and lowers productivity as well.  If you are feeling overwhelmed, simplify what needs to be done by focusing on one task at a time instead of trying to do everything all at once.

If your can delegate tasks to other people, do so.  If you are feeling overwhelmed because it is okay not to be able to do everything yourself especially when there is a chance you can hire or outsource some of the work.

20. Take A Break

If you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or tired, your body is talking to you.

Your body is saying “I need rest” so rest, do things a bit slower or have an early night. If you don’t, the body will take over and will put you to rest mode either my giving you less energy, getting sick or worse things.

Remember your body can destroy things and repair things but at a the end of the day, you must listen to it.

21. Don’t Worry or Stress

Don’t let other people stress you out or take up too much time.  You simplify your life when you choose not to let others take advantage of you.

Don’t worry about things that are out of your control.  You simplify your life when you don’t stress about things that aren’t in your control.

Make sure at the end of your busy days to just relax, think of nothing and enjoy some stillness.

Let life flow, go with wave, up and down, one big long ride riding the waves of life.

22. Be Happy and Content

Whatever that is for you, simply your life so that can happen.

happy and content

But I’m sure what you really longing for is freedom!

There are many ways to do this but most importantly just do something every day towards simplifying yourself whether that spending 15 minutes tidying up or planning out what you need to do the next day. It all counts.
