Proprioception- this is the sense of the relative position of different parts of the body and their movements. It helps us to maintain balance and coordination.  However, some people refer to proprioception as the term “sixth sense”.  

That’s why I’ve included it as the sixth human sense.

Thermoception – this is the sense of temperature and helps us to detect changes in the temperature of our environment and our own bodies.

Nociception – this is the sense of pain and helps us to detect potentially harmful stimuli in our environment.

Equilibrioception – this is the sense of balance and helps us to maintain balance and coordination, especially about the pull of gravity.

Photoperiodism – this is the sense of the length of daylight and helps some species of animals to regulate their behaviour, such as hibernation and migration, based on changes in daylight.

Magnetoreception – this is the sense of magnetic fields and helps some species of animals, such as birds and sea turtles, to navigate and orient themselves.

Chronoception – this is the sense of time and helps us to perceive the passage of time and to coordinate our activities accordingly.

Interoception – this is the sense of the internal state of the body, such as hunger, thirst, and pain.

Some of these human senses may be more developed in some individuals and species compared to others, and the existence and nature of some of these senses are still a topic of scientific investigation and debate.

Also, avoid heavily scented products such as perfumes, scented candles, and air fresheners that can contain strong fragrances which can irritate the nose and lead to a loss of smell.

Sixth Sense – Proprioception

The peripheral nervous system is responsible for sending information from the body to the brain and vice versa.

Some people use the term “sixth sense” to refer to proprioception, which is the sense of the position of one’s own body and the effort being used in the movement. Proprioception is controlled by specialized receptors in muscles, tendons, and joints, and it is considered one of the five traditional senses.

Clairgustance means clear tasting – Having the capacity for tastes beyond the physical senses, such as tasting flavours that are not physically present.

Claircognizance means clear knowing – Being able to perceive knowledge or information beyond the physical senses, such as knowing things without being told or having a source of information.

Developing your “sixth sense” through mindfulness, meditation, and other practices to quiet the mind and increase self-awareness can help to strengthen intuition and other forms of extrasensory perception.
